In experiences with others, I can think of several traits that enhance connections formed with others. Finding common ground or working toward a common goal helps forge positive relationships. Being warm and kind goes a long way in a world that often moves too fast to do so. Using people's names when addressing them and remembering past conversations makes individuals feel more strongly connected during discussion. The most impactful thing for me, though, is listening. Often times, all people want is someone to talk to and to be heard.
One does not necessarily have to give advice while listening. In my experience, often simply being a "listening ear" is helpful in relating with people. |
