Our first lesson was on self-image. Self-image is the way we see, think, and feel about ourselves. A positive self-image can have great influence on one's life in interpersonal relationships, taking on challenges, and getting through struggles.
In this lesson, we discussed who we want to become. The gap between who I am and who I want to be can be filled through believing in myself, being honest with myself, and understanding that it is okay to not be perfect. I would rate my own self-image as fairly positive. I see many good qualities I possess. What I hope to work on is accepting my own weaknesses and failures and working towards self-improvement.
By understanding my weaknesses, I will be a better occupational therapist. I will be more well equipped to help others overcome their struggles. My advice and help will come from a place of understanding and a deep sense of respect for their strength to seek help. I know first-hand that admitting weakness is not easy but is important for growth and success.
